Photography at Phillips' Mill

Phillips’ Mill Photo was established in 1991 to celebrate and promote the fine art of photography. The program centers around two shows held at the Mill each spring—the prestigious Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition, followed by the "Not Your Run of the Mill" Photo Committee Show for members—in addition to occasional workshops and lectures. Behind the scenes and in between shows, members promote each other's work and publish an extensive online magazine to keep the creative energy going all year round.

Phillips' Mill PHOTOZINE

Phillips’ Mill Photo also publishes a richly illustrated online magazine twice a year called Phillips’ Mill Photozine. The publication, edited by Nora Odendahl, is devoted to showcasing work by members of the Phillips’ Mill Photo Committee, reporting on members’ projects and accomplishments, and presenting other content of special interest to photographers. Each issue includes a central feature with a specific photographic theme.

The Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition kicks off a month-long celebration of the fine art of photography. The Photography Program at Phillips’ Mill centers around the exhibition, although it also includes workshops, lectures and roundtable discussions. The exhibition is widely regarded as the premier juried photography exhibition in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

This year’s exhibition will be judged by Thom Goertel, a Washington, D.C.-based photographer and multimedia producer.

APRIL 21-28, 2024

Sun, Wed & Thurs, 1 to 5 pm • Fri & Sat, 1 to 8 pm

Every spring, the talented photographic artists and members who volunteer their time every year to produce the annual Phillips’ Mill Photographic Exhibition, our juried photo show, are offered the chance to share their personal imagery for the Not Your Run of the Mill Photo Committee Show. Each artist is given the freedom to present a body of work that represents their vision. The results are inspiring!

PHILLIPS’ MILL PHOTO TODAY

After more than 30 years, founder Spencer Saunders stepped down as Chair of the Program in 2024, naming photographer Maria Dreyer as his successor. Saunders built Phillips’ Mill Photo from the ground up, and created a well-run, highly respected photography program for the Mill. We are grateful for his contribution and vision. Dreyer, an active committee member for several years, looks forward to growing the program, especially the juried exhibition. “Spencer left the show in a good place for me to keep it going,” she says. “It’s a very competitive exhibition; last year we received nearly 2,000 entries and accepted about 135.”
